Wilhelm Georg Christian von Cölln was born on Feb. 3, 1853 in Bremerhaven, Germany, the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst von Cölln, merchant in Bremerhaven, and Minna Cluassen von Cölln who was born in Brake, Oldenburg, Germany.
Wilhelm Georg Christian von Cölln was the eldest of 10 children and joined the German merchant marine as a young man.
He migrated to the United States and settled in Boston, Massachusetts, being employed as an electrical engineer.
On Feb. 9, 1893, he was married to Ingelöf Johanson, who was born on May 18, 1857 at Karlskrono, Sweden, in Boston.
Gustaf Wilhelm von Colln was born on Aug. 11, 1896 in Boston and was the only descendant of the above named parents.
He attended schools in Boston and in 1917 he enlisted in U.S. Naval Reserve Air Base at Squantum, Mass., being sworn in by Lt. R.E. Byrd, later Admiral and the explorer of Arctic and Antarctic, and later instructed by Chief Warrant Officer Floyd Bennett, U.S. Navy.
In World War II he was recalled to active duty and served in a number of billets at Naval Air Bases and Air Stations, the last being as Executive Officer at Jacksonville Florida Municipal, which he put in commission.
He was released to inactive duty after the end of the War in 1945, as Lieutenant Commander.
He served a total of 33 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring in 1958.
In civilian life he was employed as a designer and commercial artist and for many years designed the yellow pages for the telephone company.
As a result of his radio operator experience, he remained a ham operator for the rest of his life.
On June 22, 1940 he was married to Irma Hecker at Wollaston, Mass.
She was born July 13, 1909 at Rossla, Harz, Germany.
Besides the residences at the various Navy assignments during World War II, the family has resided in Quincy, Hanover, and Cummaquid, Mass. Shortly after the death of Gustaf on July 25, 1977 at Cummaquid, Irma von Colln had erected and moved into a new home in Chatham, Mass., on Cape Cod. Cummaquid, near Barnstable, is also located on Cape Cod.
1. Margaret Elizabeth von Colln was born on April 15, 1941 at Pensacola, Florida.
She attended local schools and then graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital as a Registered nurse.
After graduation she served on active duty as a U.S. Navy Nurse for several years.
She then was employed at Massachusetts General Hospital for several years.
On March 12, 1977 she was married to David Earl Archibald at Yarmouthport , Mass.
He was born on June 13, 1933 in Boston, Mass.
The family presently reisdes in West Chatham, Mass.
1.) Emily Elisabeth Archibald was born on July 14, 1980 at Hyannis, Mass.
2.) William David Archibald was born on Dec. 18, 1981 at Hyannis, Mass.
2. Frederich William von Colln was born on Sept. 22, 1942 at Memphis, Tennessee. He attended local schools in Massachusetts and then served in the U.S. Air Borne, U.S. Army in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Later he was employed by a construction company in Rockland, Mass. and still later attended and graduated from Northeastern University.
Presently he owns and operates a printing company in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was married to Antoinette (Toni) Pippart on April 30, 1965 in Nashville, Tenn.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1942 in California. She graduated from Peabody College, Nashville in June 1965.
1.) Frederich William Von Colln was born on Aug. 1, 1969 at Northampton, Mass.
2.) Christianne Emily Pippart Von Colln was born on Sept. 8, 1972 at Nashville, Tenn.
3.) John Gustav Robert Von Colln was born on Nov. 17, 1978 in Nashville, Tenn.
3. Anna Marieluise von Colln was born on April 30, 1947 at Quicy, Massachusetts.
On June 16, 1967 she was married to Alan L. Hutchinson at Hanover, Mass.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1945 at Milton Mass.
1.) Kristen Lee Hutchinson was born on Jan. 1, 1969 at Glendale, Arizona.
2.) Bethany Ann Hutchinson was born on June 28, 1971 at Hyannis, Mass.
